Alma de Nordeste/Soul of the Northeast

After receiving two Latin Grammy nominations, in 2004  and 2006,, Jovino Santos Neto returned to Brazil to record this new CD featuring all original material inspired by the musical universe of northeastern Brazil.  Composed after a research trip through the region in 2007, the music was recorded in Rio de Janeira by Jovino, accompanied such great Brazilian musicians as Toninho Ferragutti (accordion,) Carlos Malta, Marcelo Martins and Eduardo Neves (woodwinds,) Marcio Bahia (drums,) and Gabriel Grossi (harmonica.)

Having established a solid reputation as one of the most significant artists in Brazilian jazz, Jovino once again brings his characteristic blend of energetic grooves, deep harmonies, lyrical melodies and great ensemble playing to this new recording.  He explores several musical styles of the Brazilian northeast in his new compositions, including balao, xote, forro, marcha and many more.
